New role for Richard Tams

British Airways announced the appointment of Richard Tams, currently head of UK&I sales and marketing, as executive vice president China and the Philippines for the airline.

His new role will include representing British Airways and parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG), in China.

Drew Crawley, British Airways’ chief commercial officer said: “This appointment reflects the importance of this hugely strategic market for British Airways and marks the start of further investment in the region.

“Richard has done a fantastic job generating business and driving leisure sales with his team in the airline’s biggest market, here in the UK and Europe. I have every confidence he will bring that same energy and enthusiasm to develop our presence in China and the Philippines.”

Richard and his UK&I sales and marketing team are responsible for more than half of British Airways’ total business, as well as generating business within the financial sector, encouraging business with SMEs and growing the airline’s presence in the UK regions and Ireland.

The successful applicant for the role of head of UK&I sales and marketing at British Airways, which is being advertised internally and externally, will be announced in due course. Richard will be based in Beijing and will take up his new position when British Airways has appointed his successor.
